Woman Finds Out Her Family Makes Bets On How Long Her Marriage Would Last With Her Fiancé

When I was younger, my family used to place bets on me. It was all fun and games. Like whether I’d pass the mathematics paper or whether I’d get Science in my +2s. I never really took them seriously.

However, one woman was left furious after she found out that her family places bets on how long it would take for her fiancé to regret marrying her. She took to r/AmITheAsshole on Reddit to narrate her ordeal.

“My wedding is supposed to be at the end of this month but I’m planning to cancel everything and have a courthouse wedding because my cousin told me my family were making bets on how long it would take my fiancé to realise he wasn’t getting the ‘good little wife’ he was expecting and regret marrying me,” she wrote.

When she confronted her family, she was told that it was just a joke. But then her sister-in-law went ahead and joked about her marriage again which spoilt her mood for the worse. Now she’s considering cancelling her wedding altogether.

“When I confronted them, they said it was just a harmless joke. My sister-in-law made a joke about making sure my fiancé didn’t realise until after the wedding while I was confronting them. I was already upset but her joke just made it 10x worse and I told everybody I was going to cancel the wedding,” she wrote.

Several people online took to the comments section to shower her with advice. In the west, couples usually sponsor their own wedding and some don’t even invite their families because of strained relationships. So many advised her to not invite her family to the wedding.

But there were also people who thought that she was being over-dramatic over a joke.
