Kolkata Groom Cancels Wedding Over ‘Fake’ Facebook Pics, Claims Girl Is Already Married

Trust is the cornerstone of every relationship. And when it comes to accepting someone as your life partner, the importance of believing each other becomes all the more important. Now, just like every other pre-wedding process, it’s perfectly okay to get nervous about their marriage. But, what can one do when they see that the love of their life isn’t what they seem and is living a lie?

According to the Mumbai Mirror, one man from Kolkata faced this dilemma when he saw his future wife with another man on Facebook with signs that they were married.

Reportedly, this information came to light when the man (name withheld) saw his to-be bride’s Facebook profile picture. Upon further inspection, he noticed that not only was she with another man, but she was also sporting sindoor on her forehead.

Considering how a woman is traditionally supposed to wear sindoor once she’s married, which she officially wasn’t, the man suspected that the woman was already someone else’s wife. That’s why, without hesitating anymore, he called off the marriage just two days before the wedding.

When word of the cancellation reached the bride and her family, who were from Sonarpur in West Bengal, they were undoubtedly shocked. The girl’s father said,

“My daughter’s image has been superimposed to outrage her modesty. We belong to rural area of Ghasiara and we do not know anything about social media. I do not who did it.”

The father further added that a complaint has been filed at Sonarpur Police Station, claiming that the girl’s Facebook account has been hacked. The police have begun preliminary investigations based on the information that’s available to them.

Since all this happened so quickly, the young woman who was supposed to transition into another life, has been left in a state of utter disbelief. She said,

“My marriage got cancelled because of this fake profile picture. I have no fault in it. Someone has taken revenge on me. No one will marry me now because of this photo. People will think that I am already married.”

She has also stated that she has no idea who that man is that has caused all this ruckus. That’s why the Sonarpur Police Station has assured that they’ll be looking into it on first priority basis, and will take the help of the cyber-crime division if necessary.

In this day and age, people have mastered Photoshop to such levels that it’s very difficult to differentiate between fake photos and real ones. Additionally, due to the recent rise in cyber-crime, it’s nigh impossible to determine who’s lying and who’s not. That’s why they should calmly wait for the truth to come out and hope that it leads to an amicable solution between the two families.
