18 YO Restaurant Employee Travels 800 Km To Deliver Pizza To Man Battling Cancer

There are two types of people who work. While there are some who just perform their duties, there are a few who go the extra mile to satisfy their customers. Similarly, a Michigan pizza employee made sure that a man battling cancer got to eat his favorite pizza, even if it asked for an 800 km delivery!

The story roots back to 25 years ago, when Julie and Rich Morgan lived in Michigan, USA. Every time the pair got their salaries, they celebrated the moment by tasting some delicious pies from Steve’s Pizza. Even after the couple relocated to Indianapolis, Steve’s remained close to their heart and their taste buds.

In a bid to relive their old memories, the couple recently planned to take a trip back to Michigan and gorge on the same-old pizzas at Steve’s. However, that was the exact time when tragedy struck. Rich had to be shifted to the emergency room because of his deteriorating health. According to Fox News, Julie said in her Facebook post,

“I took Rich to the ER where he landed in ICU for five days, and where we learned the news that his valiant cancer battle was coming to an end.”

Knowing the importance of pizza in their lives, Julie asked his father David Dalke to call up Steve’s and ask if they could arrange a card for Rich. When David rang the shop up, 18-year-old Dalton Shaffer was moments away from closing the shop. On coming across Rich’s saddening state, the boy made an odd decision after shutting down that night.

“Without hesitation Dalton asked what kind of pizza we wanted, and told my father he would bring it to us (by the way, Steve’s doesn’t deliver). My dad clarified that we were in Indianapolis, at least three and a half hours away from Battle Creek. Dalton said he understood that, and would leave after he closed the store.”

In what can be labeled as one of the most heart-warming gestures you will ever come across, Dalton decided to travel the lengthy 800 Kms and deliver not one but two extra large pizzas!

“And so, while Rich and I slept, at 2:30 AM, Dalton rolled into our driveway, left the car running and delivered two extra special pizzas to my waiting family.”

Julie was delighted and touched to see Dalton and his incredible act of kindness. And so were the people on Facebook, who came across Julie’s post. The post has been shared over 300 times in just two days.
