Tesla Staff Were Told Not To Walk Too Close To Elon Musk’s Desk, Else He Would Fire Them!

In 2018, we’ve gotten to see a variety of shades of the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk. Somewhere in the middle of the year, he went through the phase of coming up with bizarre inventions. Then he transitioned into a meme after smoking weed.

And finally, we also got a glimpse of his dark side after he called one of his critics a pedophile. However, it turns out, that that bit of fury was only the tip of the iceberg as his employees were having a much harder time.

According to Wired, journalist Charles Duhigg did a six-month research of what happens inside Tesla. And that’s when a Gigafactory manager revealed that he had to stop employees from walking too close to Elon Musk’s desk to avoid getting them fired.

The unnamed manager said that Musk’s temper tantrums were so bad that even an out-of-place word could get employees fired. A former high-ranking executive said that Musk would occasionally say that he had to fire someone that day. And when the exec said he didn’t, Musk would reply, “no, no, I just do. I’ve got to fire somebody.

A third unnamed source said that they would walk into their offices every single day knowing that it could be their last day. However, a Tesla spokesperson has refuted these allegations by saying that Musk makes “difficult by necessary decisions.”

Wired’s reports say that one evening at 10 PM, a young engineer became the victim of Musk’s rage because of a faulty machine. According to a source, Musk said,

“Hey, buddy, this doesn’t work.”

The engineer was obviously confused and asked Musk to explain what he meant. And Musk responded saying,

“Did you fu*king do this? Get the fu*k out and don’t come back!”

A senior engineering executive said that Musk’s outbursts were frequent and anything could rub him off the wrong way at any given point in time. The exec added that the employees even had a name for his behaviour: “the idiot bit.”

Many employees have complained that Elon Musk resorts to calling them “idiots” frequently. But a Tesla spokesperson said that,

“Elon cares very deeply about the people who work at his companies. That is why, although it is painful, he sometimes takes the difficult step of firing people who are underperforming and putting the success of the entire company [at risk].”

In 2017, Elon Musk had tweeted out about his mental health, and it’s understandable that running such a huge institution can take a toll. But let’s hope he arrives at a better alternative to venting on his employees to find solace at his workplace.
