A while back, a social media user asked Sumukhi Suresh to lose weight. To this, the comedian replied by saying that she had chosen not to “lose her mind” over shedding some kilos and was keeping fit by following workout and diet routines as suggested by her personal trainer and nutritionist.
Now, another user has commented on Instagram user Aishu’s post saying, “Ok darkie u need bleach”. And she has responded with a beautiful song.
In the caption, she said, “Colorism in South Asia is such a huge issue, and something I’ve fought against for years now.” She added,
“One of my goals in life is to make other little girls, 10-20 years from now, to NEVER have to think that their dark skin makes them less beautiful. Because the truth is, dark skin glows like no other.”
People complimented her voice, her message and also her dark and beautiful skin. They also spoke against both blatant and subtle forms of discrimination over skin colour.
