7 Things Every #DSLRWalaFriend Is Tired Of Hearing

Three stages of life (DSLR owner edition):

  1. Birth
  2. Yaar, ek photo toh kheech de
  3. Death

You thought buying a camera would be so much FUN. You’d take awesome pictures and your e-mail would be filled with job offers and assignments. But alas! Reality popped the bubble. Now you lug around the heavy thing everywhere and have earned yourself the ‘official photographer’ title. What’s worse is that you’ve also probably been asked to photograph a lot of couple shoots. By your crush. *ouch*

I don’t know who you are but I feel you. You’re definitely not alone, it’s happened to me too. And I am absolutely tired of hearing these 7 things:

  1. Take a ‘nice’ picture of me, please!

Ek picture kheech de, achchi si. Ek aur. Okay, this one is the last one. I promise. Sound familiar? Doesn’t it make you go aarrrghhh? Because no matter where you are or who you’re with, you are ALWAYS expected to be the camera guy/girl.

2. This one is for Instagram

With the social media obsession and the need to curate beautifully perfect Instagram feeds, comes the need for – a DSLR wala dost. Or a DSLR wali dost, no discrimination here. From pictures of shoes (shoefies), food at a restaurant to profile pictures. You’ve done it all.

3. Now a ‘candid’, please.

A friend planning a secret proposal? Or a flash mob? Guess who’ll definitely be invited to cover the whole thing. One thing you should always make sure is that none of the photos looked ‘posed’. Okay? Okay.

4. Kal ghar par function hai, DSLR lekar aa jaana

Birthdays, weddings, parties, anniversaries, prayer ceremonies and even music gigs. Friends and family depend on you to capture all the memories via stills and film. You already have plans, you say? Well, cancel them! Your services are required.

5. When will you send me the pictures?

The pain is real. As if constantly being nagged about sending pictures wasn’t enough, some people also expect you to edit them now. Pro tip – Add them to one WhatsApp group to save yourself some time.

6. Friendship mein no sorry, no thank you AND no paise ki baat!

Thinking of charging people for photographing their event? Or refusing to work for free? Stop right there. Because it’s not going to happen. Trust me, all you will receive is insulted looks and sad shaking of heads.

7. Ek group picture le, tujhe tag kar denge (Photo Credits mein)

You’re never in any group pictures, you’re always the one behind the camera. But your name appears in all the captions with the word ‘Photography’ suffixed to it. And you have no one to blame but yourself. Whose bright idea was it to buy a DSLR huh?

Do you have a #CameraWalaDost? Or are you one yourself? I know every group has one, kyunki har ek friend zaroori hota hai 🙂
