Driving. Indian roads.
When you think of them together, you cringe a little. Indian roads as it is are difficult to drive on with potholes that conspire to drown you and speed breakers that throw you two feet up from your seat. But driving is like anything that is addictive. Driving despite all the problems, is a passion.
But you know what? We knowingly or unknowingly make a lot of mistakes and violate traffic rules on a daily basis.
Here are a few examples of things that you might be doing or, at least, have seen other people on the road doing which you might find inexplicable.
1. Honking incessantly, as if it’s magic and will make the traffic jam disappear.
2. Not wearing any seat belt, unless you see cops around.
3. Turning up the stereo so high that other people on the road also lose their ability to hear and they wish they were driving on their favourite road without this nuisance.
4. Putting on the high beam like it’s a cool thing to do.
5. Zigzagging your way through  traffic and thinking of yourself as a Bollywood/Hollywood hero. (Applicable to both two and four wheeler driver). *thinking of a happy road without this happening*
6. Sticking your phone between head and your shoulder so that you could talk while driving. Or texting with no regard for driving whatsoever.
7. Unfortunate reversing of your vehicle at the worst places and time possible.
8. Speeding through yellow lights without waiting for it to turn green, because you think you can get past without a scratch.
9. Being indecisive about which direction you want to go (top that with no indicator).
And all this while, not giving way to the ambulance waiting behind you is a sin you should never commit.
10. Parking your vehicle with no regard for others. *where is my happy place?*
Wouldn’t it be cool to have a map of roads in India where people don’t make these mistakes? Roads we can be proud of?
Well, that’s exactly what Maruti’s “Happy Roads” concept is all about. Open this app and mark the roads you think deserve the ‘Happy’ tag.
It’s easy to break rules to appear ‘cool’, it takes class to be the gentleman/lady everyone admires. Choice is yours.
This story is brought to you in association with Maruti Suzuki’s and Times Now’s initiative, the India Road Safety Mission.
