After Dravid, Even Dhoni Has Decided To Take A Paycut As He’s Not Playing All Formats

The general consensus is that nobody can do what Rahul Dravid does. But a recent development is sure to add an exception to this statement and it is all thanks to our former captain of the Men in Blue, M S Dhoni!

ICYMI, Rahul Dravid, had won hearts yet again when after the U-19 World Cup win, he chose to take a paycut so that the support staff would also receive equal amounts?

Yep, as if we needed more reasons to shower The Wall with love! Well, it looks like our very own Mahi has chosen to take a leaf out of Dravid’s book.

Following in Dravid’s footsteps, M S Dhoni too has decided to take a slash in his pay!

On Wednesday, the BCCI announced a new remuneration structure for cricketers to reflect the class act that they’ve been pulling off and to be in par with the best in the world.

For our Men in Blue, four categories were announced: Grades A+, A, B, and C. Of these, the A+ category has been a new addition by the board.

Being the topmost category, only those players who play across all three formats of the game and maintain a top notch ranking will be included in the A+ grade. Their compensation will also be comparatively higher.

However, since Dhoni is not playing all three formats, he chose to exclude himself from the A+ category, thereby taking a paycut.

This pay structure is supposed to have been the brainchild of skipper Virat Kohhli and MSD. Which is why the fact that Dhoni fairly decided to exclude himself from the topmost bracket feels all the more noble!

Currently, captain Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have been placed in the Grade A+. They will each receive an annual  compensation of Rs. 7 crore.

However, there is a caveat: If their performance slips, so does their grade. And an involuntary paycut is not anyone’s favourite, right?

All in all, that was quite a commendable decision from Mahi there!
