California Town Elected A Golden Retriever As Mayor, Gave Him Two Doggos As Deputy Mayors!

You’ve seen the current crop of politicians the world has right now, haven’t you? Now tell me, honestly, don’t you think it deserves a better class of politicians? Or a different species, perhaps? No, I’m not talking about aliens or AI, but rather the most loyal of them all—dogs! What’s more, a town in California, US, has done exactly that!

Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like you to meet Maximus Mighty Dog Mueller II. He’s a golden retriever, a very good boy, and currently the Mayor of the town of Idyllwild, California! Say hello to Mayor Max II !

The roman numeral ‘II’ next to his name indicates that there was a predecessor. And indeed, this town did have a Mayor Max I in 2012!

For those wondering how this town is able to get away with such a coup, don’t worry! It’s all legit!

Idyllwild is a non-incorporated town and therefore cannot have a proper mayor. And so, Animal Rescue Friends (RAF) decided to sponsor animal elections. Families could have their pets run for the elections!

According to ABC, the Chief of Staff of Mayor Max II explained how back in 2012, there was an animal election with 14 cats and 2 dogs running for the position! Mayor Max I, now deceased, had won with a landslide victory!

And now his successor, Mayor Max II has begun his term and the residents couldn’t be happier! They’ve even given him his own cruiser truck for his diplomatic duties around town!

But wait for it! Here’s something even cooler! Every mayor needs a deputy to assist him with the huge burden of duties that he has. And Mayor Max has two of them—Deputy Mayors Mikey and Mitzi!

These doggos are nothing if not democratic!

Now don’t think it’s all treats and games for these floofernuggets! They do have a whole list of mayoral duties to fulfill!

Apart from riding around town like a boss in his personalised truck, Mayor Max is also tasked with public appearances on important occasions, ribbon cuttings and performing commands!

One of the chief tasks for these good boys is posing for A LOT of photo ops with tourists, the local townsfolk and media!

Of course, it’s never a problem considering how absolutely adorable they are!

But it can be real taxing to shoulder these humungous responsibilities on their floofy dog shoulders. So the treats, belly rubs and cuddles are a non-negotiable compensation for their mayor duties!

Here’s a fun fact! All three of these dogs are descended from the OG Mayor Max I! So being a mayor is literally in their fur!

While the two deputy mayors Mikey and Mitzi are bro and sis from the same litter, and Mayor Max II is a cousin! And together, the three are keeping the family lineage of exemplary diplomats alive!

Mr Mueller, the family whose pet Mayor Max is, told the Daily Mail UK,

“His role is to make the world a better place by conveying unconditional love and doing as many good deeds for others.”

Who better than a dog to spread the love? And indeed, as the picture says, they are amazing at it! Woof Woof!
