Priya Vedi, an anaesthetist at AIIMS hospital in New Delhi, was found dead in a hotel in the Paharganj area of the city. She was found with a slit wrist in Presidency hotel, Paharganj, where she had checked in after having a fight with her husband.
Priya, who married Dr. Kamal Vedi, a dermatologist in the same hospital, 5 years ago, allegedly committed suicide because she was being mentally tortured by her husband after she got to know about his sexual orientation 6 months into their marriage.
She was found dead with a suicide note on the spot, and she had posted a similar post on her Facebook wall before she killed herself.
Here is the note she left on Facebook before committing suicide:
Both of the notes claimed her saying that she was completely accepting of her husband’s sexual orientation and chose to be with him because she was in love with him, but the torture he put her through after that was something she could not bear. It also mentions that since she got to know about his sexuality, he had been harassing and torturing her for Dowry. It started with him insulting her family, and then went on to emotionally abusing her and asking her for Dowry.
Dr. Kamal Vedi has been arrested for a case under Sections 498A and 304B (dealing with the offences of dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code.
