The Indian film industry is not all glitz and glamour. Actors often speak about issues plaguing the industry and the way to move forward. For example, Kunal Kemmu and Vidyut Jammwal slammed favouritism and discriminatory behaviour in Bollywood while Shefali Shah talked about being typecast and getting the same kind of roles early on in her career.
Now Divya Dutta has asked journalists not to brand her as a “supporting actor”.
According to Hindustan Times, she tweeted that she was a complete actor who essayed all kinds of roles. She also questioned why male actors were never branded as supporting but called “versatile” instead.
Kuch journo dosto yun hain ki I understand u feel I deserve better, ()but pls don’t try branding me with a tag of supporting actor. Am not. I am an actor. A complete one at that where I play all sorts of roles . Even leads. U understand? U better understand😂. 1/1

1/2. It amuses me that male actors who do the same I.e play every kind of roles are not given this term . They are called versatile. but this tag is bestowed upon me because in ur opinion I deserved better. I appreciate . I am very happy doing t best roles in the business

I think we need to get away with the term of supporting actor itself because actors of all ages and genders are outdoing themselves and shining. It’s just now all of us as viewers are waking up to their talent @divyadutta25

‘Actor in a supporting role’ is more like it. But an actor is an actor, no matter the size of the role. You’re a great one, Divya! Looking forward to watching you in Dhaakad.

Could agree more. There is an inherent sexist in the industry, which create such kind of biased.
Mere fact that one is able to do variety of roles, in different genres, is an achievement, but journo define it as burden.
The lens to see actor should be changed at least in 2021
