Argentina’s run in the 2018 World Cup has been a dismal one. Despite having big names like Messi, Mascherano, Aguero and Di Maria, they’ve failed to make a mark against teams like Croatia and Iceland. So, yesterday they had to win against Nigeria or else they would be out of the tournament. And as Messi’s skills were needed the most, he delivered.
The match was a tense affair with Marcus Rojo saving Argentina from elimination. But the roller-coaster ride was best emoted by the legend, Diego Maradona. That man went from channeling the Holy Spirit through him to taking a short nap and showing Nigerians the middle finger in the end. And if that’s not meme-worthy, I seriously don’t know what is.

While the match was certainly a sight to behold, Diego Maradona’s was no less. However, the over-excitement took a toll on his health and he had to be treated by the paramedics. So, we earnestly hope that he makes a speedy recovery so that he can Argentina to the finals from the stands.
