Abhijit Banerjee’s Nobel Prize Triggers Virtual Food Fight Between Dhokla & Fish Lovers

The country’s chest swelled with pride after Indian-American Economist Abhijit Banerjee was awarded the Nobel Prize for Economics last week. With this, Banerjee also became the 6th Bengali to have brought the coveted prize home and the people from his community were proud to say the least.

As soon as the announcement was made, Bengalis started sharing ways in which they are connected with Banerjee and five other Bengali Nobel Prize winners. A Twitter user, Aparna, listed the iconic awards and songs Bengalis have given to India.

Her tweet was addressed to ‘Dhokla Eaters’ and clearly mentioned that ‘fish, beef and pork eaters’ are superior. This somehow triggered a virtual competition of ‘who’s better’ on desi Twitter!

And a thread of absurd, yet hilarious logic and memes kicked off with people from both communities debating what’s better – Dhokla or Fish!

Apparently, chole bhature was also dragged in.

Apart from fun, people also came forward to school the woman for spreading hatred on regional grounds.

Be it dhokla, fish or chole bhature, every food, and every community has its own unique contribution to the culture of our country. After all, we are ONE!
