Twitter Is Celebrating Dhanteras With Memes On Empty Wallets & Gold Jewellers

Like any other Indian festival, Deepawali also comes with its own set of traditions. Some of them are new like forwarding boxes of Soan Papdi, pledging to burst only green crackers and supporting the local potter community. And some are really old like #DiwaliKiSafai and buying gold or silver on Dhanteras.

Dhantrayodashi or Dhanteras is the day we worship Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, with a pooja and light clay lamps to get rid of darkness and evil. It is also considered auspicious to buy new things and bring them into the home today. Many opt for gold coins and jewellery which has sparked some hilarious memes online.

Twitter users are taking a jibe at their own broke selves and ruing the fact that they can’t afford to buy gold.

Jewellers have also become the butt of all jokes given that Dhanteras sales usually boost their profits. Check it out.

People have also unofficially christened this festival as ‘Bappi Lahiri Diwas’ given the singer’s propensity to wear multiple gold chains and rings. Some even suggested that he should be named the Brand Ambassador of Dhanteras.

While we might not have enough money to celebrate like Bappi da, but these ‘golden’ jokes and memes have certainly put us in the festive spirit.
