‘Jingle Bells’ Gets A Desi Touch With Sinkari Melam, Watch Video

We can’t keep calm because Christmas is just around the corner. While kids are prepping their wish list and adults are decorating trees, we’re excited about the bright lights, melodious carols and tons of sweet treats.

Keeping the Christmas spirit in mind, a YouTube page by the name ‘Medivazhipadu by Toms’, has recreated the classic Christmas song ‘Jingle Bells’. They have given a Sinkari melam twist to the popular holiday song, reports Hindustan Times. Sinkari Melam is a classical percussion performed commonly in southern India.

This desi version features a group of children singing and dancing to the song along with drum beats that give it a traditional South Indian rhythm. According to Indian Express, Sinkari melam which is related to Chenda melam, is an integral part of the festivals in Kerala. The divine music is often played in temples there.
