These Comics Illustrate The Terrifying Reality Of Panic Attacks, Anxiety And Depression

Depression, anxiety, panic. Emotions such as these are hard to explain and even harder to comprehend. They’re complex and terrifying. The happiest smile may have hidden beneath it a suffering soul. Those who face this day in and day out are some of the strongest people I know. However, most of us don’t quite grasp the seriousness of such illnesses.

Sow Ay, an artist struggling with generalised anxiety, panic attacks and depression, started to draw his thoughts in the form of comics. Have a look. Maybe they’ll give you some perspective:

1. Easier said than done.

2. The burden of meeting expectations is overwhelming sometimes.

3. I empathise with this.

4. Our online presence may never reflect how we truly feel.

5. Sometimes loneliness does get to the best of us.

6. Panic attacks could truly become a nightmare.

7. With such thoughts, dire helplessness sets in.

8. However, occasionally, there may be some respite.

9. Too many artists have been consumed with thoughts like these.

10. It’s not that easy.

11. I can only imagine the torture.

12. And then there’s the lack of confidence.

13. Soon, dilemma sets in.

14. And it gets worse.

15. So next time, never judge a person just by their smile.

I may never be able to fully empathise with someone suffering from such an illness. However, these illustrations certainly helped gain a better perspective.

Those who are a victim of such a terrible illness, all I can offer are my deepest sympathies.
