Delivery Boy Kept Messaging This Delhi Girl After She Ordered Food From A Restaurant

It was an idle Sunday night, a chilled out weekend, when Avantika must have thought of ordering in, instead of going out. She must have skimmed through the menu on Zomato to finally settle on Bercos, Greater Kailash-1.

A seamless experience to place the order and even scoring ten percent discount on the food obviously made her happy. The food arrived one hour within she had placed her order.

The delivery boy who looked like a guy next door was a little confused about the payment method being Cash On Delivery or Netbanking.

The confusion was soon cleared and Avantika happily got back to her food. Thirty minutes must have passed since then when she received a message on her phone with the delivery boy apologising to her for the confusion.

At her first instance she thought, it is a nice thing that the restaurant has good service and are apologetic about even trivial confusion.

Then the messages continued. The delivery boy kept messaging her asking her why her display picture wasn’t visible.

Alarmed, Avantika decided to complain about the matter. On Monday morning, she called Bercos and even got in touch with the Customer Relationship Manager. Yet she got no reasonable response for them.

Later when she got in touch with SHADOWFAX, the company that takes care of deliveries for Bercos, they were unapologetic and said, “Ma’am he just asked for you picture and apologised about the confusion, what is wrong in that.”

What should Avantika have done? Waited for the delivery boy to harass her, stalk her and then filed a police complaint?

Later, in a Facebook post that she had uploaded explaining her ordeal, Mr Sanjeev Bhikchandani, co-founder of Info-Edge group (Naukri.com) who is an investor with Zomato, replied to the comment. He assured her that he will see to the issue and it will be resolved.

Avantika was later told that the delivery boy has been fired. However, there has been no response or apologies issued from the restaurant’s side.

When a stranger who has your address and contact number, messages you for no apparent reason, it is an alarming situation for anyone. Had Avantika not taken the initial steps, who knows what might have this led to. Like this woman in Bengaluru who was forced to leave city, after the delivery boy kept harassing her.
