Ghantewala Sweets Is Suing SRK And Demanding Compensation For A Scene In The Movie ‘Fan’

So remember the scene where Gaurav Chandna’s mom lovingly packs a box of sweets for his God-like idol, Aryan Khanna? The name on the box says ‘Ghantewala Sweets’.

For those of you who aren’t from Delhi might not feel so deeply for it, but Ghantewala is a rather special, nostalgia-inducing sweet shop that had been around since 1970 and one of the branches of which was finally shut down in 2015.

But the proprietors of the shop aren’t very happy about the box being featured in the movie and have filed a lawsuit against Shahrukh Khan for using their brand in his movie ‘Fan’

Although the box was used by director Maneesh Sharma to authenticate SRK’s role as a typical Delhi guy and to make the audience connect with the elements of a being a typical Delhite, the ex-owners of the sweet shop have not taken this in a good stride.

Sushant Jain, who is the current owner of the other branch which runs under the name, Ghantewala Confectioners wants compensation for the film-makers to use the brand without giving any credits to the shop.

Maybe this is just a publicity gimmick, considering Ghantewala is so famous on its own already.

But personally, I’d be glad even if my half-chipped, badly manicured nail was featured in an SRK movie.

What do you think about this?
