In our country, you will find several people pretending not to look and walking away after spotting a woman getting harassed or a person getting assaulted. But the same people will complain and create a scene if they spot a couple kissing or expressing their love for each other in a public space. Some are irked by even the smallest actions like a girl and a guy holding hands or hugging.
Speaking of which, a guy named Abhinav Thakur shared a video on Twitter of a couple inside a metro in Delhi. The guy and the girl were just sitting close to each other and talking. Thakur records a video of them against their knowledge, let alone permission, shares it on Twitter, tags Delhi Police and writes, “I am feeling very awkward. Please help.”

What’s making us speechless is that the couple is doing nothing to offend the regular public. Yet, this man’s complaining, probably forgetting that while the couple are not engaging in anything illegal, he is breaking the law by filming them without their consent.
Several people online slammed the man for behaving in such a shameless and unnecessarily controversy-creating manner. Many even pointed out the hypocrisy of this incident. Have a look at some of the reactions here:
Indians will tolerate looking at abuse in public and won’t even bat an eye if someone is being beaten to de@th but affection is where they draw the line. https://t.co/2mc9S8lUJX

Meet Abhinav Thakur. A typical example of a blackmailer who acts as a social activist. Clicks pictures without consent and uploads them on social media. There are many like him.
Request to the couple: to hell with Abhinav. Dont worry. Bindaas jiyo. https://t.co/g97tuIRNxW— Rakhi Tripathi (@rakhitripathi) May 13, 2023
indians would turn a blind eye if they see domestic violence happening in front of their two eyes but a couple consensually and lovingly sitting together is where they draw the line https://t.co/bxUiXWndyY

remember as per section 294 of the IPC, that basic acts of affection like kissing and hugging are not illegal in India. However, Recording Individual conversations without their consent is strictly forbidden by law in India. https://t.co/CFM1n3Q5Cy

I see nothing wrong in this. If mere touch or hugging makes you uncomfortable then I’m sorry please get a life, this is India and not Iran. The couple should file a complaint against you for this nonsense! If a normal hug you are uncomfortable then it’s your problem! https://t.co/bxZ25SUzLH

People like Abhinav Thakur are the problem. Not the couple.
