Delhi Govt. Plans Free Bus & Metro Rides For Women, Leaving Boys Feeling ‘Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo’!

The two main concerns about commuting to the office every day are:

  1. How to kill time?
  2. And the expenses?

You, however, have TV series, your boyfriend’s phone call and judging your fellow passenger’s fashion sense rescuing you from the first concern. But you can really do nothing about the ‘expenses’! You can neither travel without ticket in Delhi metro nor have you the option of skipping buying bus tickets!

So, ultimately, you have to empty your pockets and spend a minimum of Rs 1500 to Rs 2000 per month on your daily commute to work by public transport in the capital. Also, not all companies offer travel allowances!

What if the government were to help you curb your daily travel expenses? Sounds exciting and comes as quite a relief, eh? (I’m already thinking of spending of the saved pennies on shopping, food, etc)

Well, there’s good news for you all! Delhi government is planning to make your dreams come true by making Metro and Bus rides free of cost soon!

There’s only one condition: To avail the offer, you must be a woman.

“The government is considering to waive fare for women in DTC buses and Delhi Metro to encourage them to use public transport in view of their safety. An announcement in this regard will be made on June 3,” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in a public meeting recently, reports TOI.

“While allowing free travel in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses run by the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal System(DIMTS) may not be difficult, it will be “challenging” to do so in Metro trains”, said Transport Department officials.

Calculating the revenue loss of making travel free for commuters is another hurdle in the process. The government has, however, assured that allowing free travel requires a technological solution.

DMRC has currently refused to comment on the matter. We hope things fall in place and we really get to hear the good news from the AAP government soon!

This news would have certainly made men say, “Agle janam mohe bitiya hi kijo”, right boys?
