Every day we hear gruesome and horrific tales about the safety of women in our country. And it makes me think, are we really safe? If we are to go by the facts and the news we read, women are not safe outside. But what’s worse, they aren’t safe even in their own homes.
But what if I told you, the ones who have the grave responsibility to save us are the perpetrators of the crime. In a shocking and saddening incident, a male cop under the influence of alcohol did the unthinkable.
According to Hindustan Times, a Delhi cop under the influence of alcohol flashed at a female constable on Saturday night.
The cop was posted at a police training institute in Jharoda Kalan. The woman constable informed her senior officials and reported the incident.
Earlier, the same evening, the cop had entered the mess and inappropriately touched two other woman constables. They had demanded an apology from him.
The cop then went to the room and drank some liquor and went to the terrace.
Things got out of hand when an hour later, another female alleged that the cop had stripped and masturbated in front of her. The senior officials reached the spot. And after the identification process, the cop was suspended.
Confirming the news, a senior police officer has said that a departmental inquiry is underway.
This is not only shocking but downright shameful. This happened at a training institute where they are trained to safe guard their citizens. Is this what the new crop of cops will learn and lead?
Secondly, it happened in Delhi. Already known as the ‘rape capital of India’, it goes without a say, cops should lead by example because it is them who we trust our lives with. And with such shameful incidents coming to light every second day, we wonder who will truly protect us?
