The government recently permitted the opening of standalone liquor shops in the green, orange, and red zones. We saw how people on the internet broke into a celebration and liquor shop owners showered customers with flowers after they were back in business after 40 long days!
However, the Delhi government had decided to impose a 70% ‘Special Corona Fee’ on liquor sales in the national capital, reports News18.
“70% of the maximum retail price (will be levied) on all categories of liquor sold through retail licensees for consumption,” Delhi government’s Finance Department said.
Therefore, if a bottle of liquor were to cost Rs 1,000, the customer would end up paying Rs 1,700 after tax. Yes, quite the bummer.
