Deepika Padukone’s production debut ‘Chhapaak’ undoubtedly was her most anticipated film for 2020. Inspired by the story of Laxmi Agarwal, ‘Chhapaak’ tells the story of Malti, an acid attack victim, and her journey of coming to terms with her reality and fighting for her rights.
Recently, a video of Deepika Padukone starting a Chhapaak ‘look’ challenge has drawn flak online, reports NDTV. In it, we see that Deepika speaks of Malti as one of her top three favourite ‘looks’, after Shanti from Om Shanti Om and Piku. Alongside her is a makeup artist who recreates Malti’s look later in the video.
Watch the video here:
And just when we thought that @deepikapadukone couldn’t mock Lakshmi anymore through her PR stunts in JNU she comes up with tick tok challenge on acid attack victims. Gross. pic.twitter.com/077Uz7hcEg

People on the internet are calling out Deepika for being “insensitive” towards acid-attack victims. Many claimed that the faces of such victims aren’t a “look” and such a “PR stunt” is extremely disrespectful. Have a look:
The problem with Deepika Padukone endorsing a makeup challenge on Chhapak is that she treated it as one of her “looks” and dismissed the entire trauma behind it. She proved that it was merely makeup for her & she clearly doesn’t understand the depth of what survivors go through.

No @deepikapadukone.This promo isn't cool or cute. It's insensitive & ghastly.
The movie wasn't about you & your make up. It was about a woman scarred for life. And victims like her, whose marks can't be wiped off, unlike your make up.You lost the plot, alas. https://t.co/9Zt8XEmSqI

Shameful, Insensitive!!
Like Chhapakk is not just a sound.. them Scars are not just make up..Seems like Deepika understands only the profitability & PR of the subject and not the pain, anguish, complexes and gravitas of the matter!

This is nauseating. Not only extremely derogatory for Acid Attack Victims also for entire humanity. As a lady I just can't watch it.The pain which Acid Attack victims had to suffer, isn't something to make it look Funny.

According to The Hindu, one user claimed that such challenges help to normalise the scars of acid attack victims.
“Deepika helping to normalise acid scars with Malti’s look being recreated. Social inclusion for acid attack survivors is important and the TikTok videos are a great way,” the user wrote.
Is Deepika being insensitive? What is your take on this? Tell us!
