The 95th Academy Awards has been a big night for Indians across the globe. Our country brought home not one but two Oscars! While ‘Naatu Naatu’ from the film ‘RRR’ won under the ‘Best Original Song’ category and scripted history, ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ won under the ‘Best Documentary Short Film’ category.

‘Naatu Naatu’ was performed on stage by singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava alongside an energetic dance performance and do you know who introduced the performance to the audience? Yes, it was Deepika Padukone!

In her introduction speech for ‘Naatu Naatu’, Deepika, with a proud and wide smile on her face, said:

“An irresistibly catchy chorus, electrifying beats, and killer dance moves to match have made this next song a global sensation. It plays during a pivotal scene in RRR. A movie about the friendship between real-life Indian revolutionaries Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. In addition to being sung in Telugu and illustrating the film’s anti-colonialist themes, it’s also a total banger. It’s earned millions of views on YouTube and TikTok has audiences dancing in movie theatres all around the world and is also the first song ever from an Indian production to be nominated for an Oscar. Do you know Naatu? Because if you don’t, you’re about to. From the film RRR, this is Naatu Naatu.”
