Watching Argentina and Lionel Messi lift the FIFA World Cup 2022 was momentous. But what attracted us desis to the sporting event was Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone unveiling the trophy before the final match on Sunday alongside Spain’s former football captain Iker Casillas.

According to The Economic Times, Deepika scripted history by becoming the first Indian to unveil the FIFA trophy. DP, who is also the first Indian Louis Vuitton brand ambassador, was escorted to the ground along with the trophy seated in the bespoke Louis Vuitton trophy trunk.

For the event, Deepika also wore a Louis Vuitton outfit styled by her friend, fashion designer Nicolas Ghesquière. While she might be ticking off a milestone in her dream outfit, people thought the designer and the brand could have done better.
Clearly, people online didn’t approve of her outfit and called it ‘atrocious’. Some also said she looked like a ‘duffle bag’.
After her dress received so much backlash, Deepika posted a video wherein she was seen talking about her special attire and how comfortable it is.
In the clip, while signing a football and an official book on the one-of-a-kind trophy trunk, the ‘Om Shanti Om’ actor said, “At the moment I feel nervous but I also feel a lot of gratitude. It’s one of the biggest sporting moments in history.”
Talking about her outfit, she says, “I’m wearing Louis Vuitton.”
“It’s a very special look by my very dear friend Nicolas. And what I love about it is that it’s so perfect for what we are going to do, which is unveiling the trophy. But at the same time, it’s really comfortable.”
