When asked about the film during the trailer launch, Deepika told India Today, “Maine sirf iss moment ke baare main socha tha ki aap log trailer dekhenge aur fir humein stage main aana hai. Uske baad humein kuch bolna hai iske baare main toh maine socha nahi tha”

(I thought that we will be called upon the stage after you watch the trailer. I didn’t know that I will have to speak after that),” and then she broke down.

She asked director Meghna Gulzar to “carry on”. Gulzar and co-star Vikrant Massey consoled the Padmaavat star. Deepika has earlier shared how moved she was to play the role of an acid attack survivor in the film. She has also burnt the prosthetics used in the film to get rid of the depressive thoughts she had after shooting.

When asked if the film has affected Massey on the same scale, he told IE, “I am very thick-skinned, so I didn’t break down on sets. I have taken a lot back with me from this film. These learnings and experiences will stay with me for a very long time.”

“This film is important for various reasons. It is important to tell this story today, given the situation of women in our country. I have got the opportunity to work with a fine director and co-star,” he added.

Later on, while talking about the film Deepika said, “It’s not often when you come across a story where you have to sit through an entire narration. Usually, you have to sit through the entire process and then decide whether you want to do a film or not. It’s not often when you come across a story where you know instantly in the first few minutes of meeting a director that this is it. We have made the film with a lot of love, a lot of passion, a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of responsibility.”

Massey spoke in detail about his character in the film, “I am Amol in the film. The character is based on Alok Dixit, who was with Laxmi in her journey. With the kind of stories we read in newspapers, with the crimes against women, I think it was time that we tell a story like this as responsibly as possible through cinema,” he said.

Chhapaak is Deepika and Massey’s very first collaboration. He will be seen portraying the role of Deepika’s love interest in the film. The film is set to hit the silver screen on January 10, 2020.
