The contagious coronavirus has almost consumed all of our 2020 and I am pretty sure most of us wished we get the vaccine in 2021. Well, it seems like our prayers are finally being answered.
According to the Times Of India, the Drugs Controller General of India has formally given its green signal to Pune-based Serum Institute of India’s (SII) Covishield along with Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for emergency use. The Indian states who recently took part in the dry run, to weed out the flaws and ensure the smooth rollout of the vaccines once they are ready, will probably be the first ones to receive them.
“We’ll never approve anything if there is slightest of safety concern. The vaccines are 110 percent safe,” Drug Controller General of India VG Somani said. He further added that Covishield was found to be 70.42 percent effective and Covaxin was “safe and provides a robust immune response,” reports NDTV.
Hearing about it, PM Modi tweeted:
It would make every Indian proud that the two vaccines that have been given emergency use approval are made in India! This shows the eagerness of our scientific community to fulfil the dream of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, at the root of which is care and compassion.

Both companies have accelerated the production process. Covishield, developed by Oxford University and pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, will be the first shot that will be made available to 3 crore people on the priority list in the first vaccination attempt.
Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of Serum Institute of India yesterday tweeted that India’s first COVID-19 vaccine is ready to roll-out in the coming weeks.
