Recently, Hungary passed a law banning any educational content/study material and programs for students under the age of 18 which promoted LGBTQ+ inclusivity and rights. This decision by the Hungarian government received tremendous criticism worldwide, as it was shockingly announced at a time when the rest of the world was celebrating Pride month.
Responding to Hungary’s new law, Czech President Milos Zeman called transgender people “disgusting”. He further added that those undergoing gender reassignment surgeries are committing a “crime”, reports BBC.
“If you undergo a sex-change operation you are basically committing a crime of self-harm,” he said.
The 76-year-old President went on to add,
“I can understand gays, lesbians and so on. Do you know who I don’t understand at all? The transgender ones. Every surgery is a risk and these transgender people to me are disgusting,”
While his statements faced massive backlash online, many Czech citizens apologised on his behalf and said that the President’s opinion isn’t a reflection of their ideas.
I am really sorry that our president said that. He is out of the touch. Hope we will be lucky with a new president next time. Apologies to our people who were hurt by this statement.

Disgraceful comments from anyone, let alone someone in public office who leads a country.

That statement returns to the base nature of people, hating those that they consider them not us. Tolerance is a learned skill that must be practiced in order to conquer natural instincts. These type of statements from public figures are incendiary
