581 Children Rescued From Child Trafficking Over 365 Days By Cops In Cyberabad

In our country, every time we walk through the streets, it is very difficult to turn a blind eye against the uncountable children who are seen begging, picking rags, or working in small food joints. Child trafficking has always been one of the major drawbacks of the country. Owing to our ever-increasing population while unemployment rates skyrocket every year, it is hard to imagine the number of families below the poverty line. And the need for food and a roof to live under makes one push their moral boundaries for the worse.

From begging, working as cheap labour, picking rags, to prostitution, it’s hard to imagine what these kids go through every day. They are either taken away by traffickers who falsely promise them decent jobs or are kidnapped by them.

Children disappear overnight and are caught in this trap of abuse. So when Cyberabad Police initiated ‘Operation Smile’ as a means to rescue kids from child trafficking, it came as a relief to several victims and their families.

And now, after a year, Cyberabad Police has managed to rescue as many as 581 children from child trafficking. According to sources, teams were formed by the police who went in search for kids who were begging, rag picking, had engaged in prostitution, etc. There were three Smile teams working in the three zones of the Cyberabad Commissionerate.

“The aim of these teams is to prevent child trafficking and rescue children from persons who engage them in begging, sex trade and other anti-social activities, apart from tracing missing children,” the police said.

Out of the 581 kids, 204 were girls. A total of 299 were forced into child labour, 200 into begging, and 71 into rag picking. The police informed that the children were either handed back to their parents or were sent to shelter homes to be taken care of.

We hope that the Cyberabad police inspires such successful initiatives to be conducted across the country to give such children a better life. Kudos to them!
