Author Of ‘The Cut’ Article That Called Priyanka Chopra A ‘Scam Artist’ Apologises

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ wedding fever is still in the air, as we await their second and final reception for Bollywood, in Mumbai. Meanwhile, more pictures from their wedding released, PeeCee delved right back into her work with Nick by her side, and of course, they had their first bit of controversy as a married couple. Ah, celeb couple goals, right?

I’m talking, of course, about the article published by The Cut, where the writer called Priyanka Chopra a ‘global scam artist’ who lusts after the finer things in life and who forced Nick Jonas into marriage when he only wanted a fling.

The article was termed a pile of steaming garbage, not because it was dissecting PeeCee and Nick’s extremely elaborate wedding setup or calling it all a PR stunt. It was criticised for being racist, xenophobic and ignorant of a country’s culture.

What’s more, it portrayed Priyanka, who is a former Miss World, a global icon and a star in her own right, as someone who was just out to leverage Nick Jonas’ fame and money so she could buy herself expensive things.

The article received major backlash on social media, following which it was taken off the website and replaced with an apology note from the editors.

The criticism came from fans, journalists and celebs like Sonam Kapoor. Even PeeCee’s new in laws, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, clapped back at the writer for her offensive commentary on Priyanka and Nick’s relationship.

And now, finally, the author of that disgraceful piece has tweeted an apology to Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, as well as the readers.

So are people welcoming this apology? Yes. In fact, some have even pointed out that her apology took three days to arrive and should’ve probably been sent out when the article was taken down.

But is the apology accepted? Well, there are mixed reactions to it. Some have forgiven, or at least forgotten, and moved on. Others have point blank refused to believe it, and pulled out the writer’s old tweets, where she gloated about the attention she was getting for the article. They claim it’s just a way for her to save her job.

Some others, though,  continue to maintain that she had said nothing wrong in the first place.

Do we think Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas or anyone from their families will come forth to comment on this? Looks highly unlikely, but we gotta wait and watch!
