TN Police Arrest 2 People For Selling Crow Meat To Chicken Biryani Vendors

Movie buffs will remember the popular scene from the 2004 movie ‘Run’ where actor Vijay Raaz’s character Ganesh devoured the ‘Rs 5 ki biryani’ that apparently was ‘Kauwa biryani’. The actor was also nominated for ‘Best Performance in a Comic Role’ in Screen Weekly Awards. While we all LOLed at the blunder that the biryaniwala bhaiya did, no one would think that could happen IRL, right? Who does that kind of thing to people, haina?

But nope, apparently, someone was selling the popular ‘Kauwa biryani’ in the name of chicken biryani in Tamil Nadu. According to HT, the bizarre incident that took place in Rameshwaram was brought to light when the locals visiting a nearby temple noticed that crows in the vicinity kept dying after they were fed the rice that devotees offer at the temple.

The problem was brought under the notice of the temple authorities who after conducting an enquiry found that the birds died after consuming liquor-laced food. They discovered that the poisonous rice was given to the birds by the poachers who later collected the unconscious crows, and sold them to meat vendors, said Republic TV.

When the police were informed about the crows dying an unusual death, they began investigating roadside eateries and found a couple of people selling cheap biryani in the town. They managed to get hold of the poachers who sold the poisoned crow meat to chicken stalls.

The accused selling the meat of the crows said to the police, “We were hunting the crows and selling them to the small shopkeepers. The shopkeepers were selling the meat of the crows as chicken lollipop and chicken biryani, making them a good source of income.”

Reportedly, these stalls mix the crow meat with chicken meat and sold it to roadside eateries. After further investigation, the police arrested two people for allegedly killing crows and selling their meat to chicken stalls. They have recovered 150 dead crows from the accused.

Biryani lovers, now you know, not every biryani you eat is yummmmm. And if it is, you might be savouring a ‘Kauwa Biryani’!
