Coca-Cola Share Prices Drop After Ronaldo Rejects A Coke Bottle, Twitter Reacts

Football fans who’ve been following the UEFA Euro Championships would know that something unusual happened at the press conference ahead of the Portugal vs. Hungary match. For those who don’t, here’s the scoop:

According to Zee News, striker Cristiano Ronaldo removed the two bottles of Coca-Cola that had been placed in front of him (the beverage brand is a sponsor), held up the bottle of water, and said “Agua!” making his preference quite clear.

The Indian Express reports that subsequently, Coca-Cola’s share price dropped from $56.10 to $55.22. This 1.6 percent drop meant that the market valuation of the company lost $4 billion. In response, the company issued a statement that said “everyone is entitled to their drink preferences” with different “tastes and needs”.

Needless to say, the incident sparked a flood of memes online. Take a look.
