Ever since coronavirus started taking the lives of scores of people in India, the authorities and citizens alike have been taking every precautionary measure to break the chain of COVID-19 infection.
However, amid these vigilant citizens who have been adhering to all the norms, there are some covidiots who have made the task of curbing the spread of the infection difficult for everyone. Now, in a bizarre incident, a COVID-19 positive man hailing from West Bengal travelled from Delhi to his home state carrying his corona positive report in his pocket.
Times Now reports that since all flights from the national capital, one of the worst-hit places in the country, to Kolkata have been suspended, the man in question decided to take a connecting flight from Delhi to Kolkata via Guwahati.
The 34-year-old switched multiple flights with several passengers to reach Kolkata, risking everyone’s life. On reaching the city of joy, he urged the airport authorities to immediately put him in a quarantine centre. On checking, his temperature was completely normal and he didn’t show any symptoms of coronavirus. Hence, the Kolkata airport officials denied sending him to the quarantine facility.
That’s when the passenger took out his corona positive report from his pocket and showed it to the authorities. “See, this is my COVID-19 result report,” he said. He also claimed that he had a cough. The officials were appalled on seeing his report post which he was handed over to the state health department who took him to a COVID-19 facility near the airport. Now, the Kolkata authorities are contact-tracing all the passengers who travelled in the two flights along with this COVID-19 positive passenger.
This incident is making me furious. While people are losing their lives almost every day because of the virus, this man carried the virus and deliberately risked the lives of God knows how many people. May good sense prevail in this country!
