US Students Throw ‘Covid-19 Parties’, The First One To Get Infected Gets Rewarded

It’s been more than three months that people across the world have been staying at home and trying every precautionary measure to keep themselves safe from coronavirus. Still, more than five lakh people have reportedly succumbed to it. And in the course of us following the pandemic norms, we have seen many ‘covidiots’ breaking the rules and putting lives at risk.

But now, students from the US have found a new way to purposely infect themselves with the virus. According to a report by Times Now, a group of students from Alabama threw a ‘COVID-19 party’ with an intention to infect others. But this is not an isolated case, such parties have now become common in Tuscaloosa. Covid-19 positive patients and students who are safe from the virus are invited to such parties to intentionally infect the latter.

City Council member Sonya McKinstry told CNN, “We thought that was kind of a rumour at first. We did some research, not only do the doctors’ offices confirm it, but the state confirmed they also had the same information.”

And surprisingly, the person who gets infected first gets presented with a pot of money raised from the sale of tickets.

“They put money in a pot and try to get COVID. Whoever gets the virus first, gets the pot. It makes no sense.”

Thankfully, the authorities have been put on high alert and are tracing more such parties that are allegedly being attended by the students hailing from the University of Alabama.

“It makes me furious. Furious to the fact that something that is so serious and deadly is being taken for granted. Not only is it irresponsible, but you could contract the virus and take it home to your parents or grandparents,” McKinstry said. She further added:

“This is not political. This is a public health issue. People are dying and there is no cure. We have to do whatever we can to save as many lives as possible.”

Well, I can’t come to terms with the fact that even after losing a lot of people to the pandemic, people are doing something as insensitive and careless as this.
