Few of the many popular statements that women across India grow up hearing are:
1. Girls from decent houses do not go out in the dark.
2. Girls should wear proper clothing because revealing clothes make them susceptible to molestation/rape.
3. God made women primarily to produce children.
4. Husband = God.
Women are no stranger to regressive practices forced upon them in the name of protection or tradition. Many of us grow up questioning and rebelling inequality we face in our own homes.
A married couple who go by the name ‘TheMewlyWeds’ recently took social media by storm after posting a hilarious satirical message on gender roles.
They posted pictures in which the husband is seen wearing a hijab, sitting beside his smiling wife who “took him out” for a meal.
She composed a brilliant satire on role-reversal which is bound to make your bones tickle!
“This is my beautiful husband. Of course, you can’t see how beautiful he is because I make sure he keeps his beauty (read: identity) hidden as I am the only true haqdaar of it”, she wrote.
She humorously added how they went to a restaurant that only serves steroid free chicken because they are “health conscious”, otherwise his fertility will get affected. And that’s not an option since his only duty is to get her pregnant!
Everything she mentions attacks conservative rules held only against women.

However, some people didn’t get the humour and the real motive behind her post and started slamming her.
She later took on Twitter to clear the air and state that she wasn’t attacking any particular religion. Instead, the role-reversal was to highlight how patriarchy has been operating for centuries.
To all of you who understand what this means, to all of you supporting the cause, lots of love and hugs. May we all together become change catalysts, may we all learn to treat each other based on humanity.

Also, on a serious note (tum logon ko samjhaana parta hai lab mazak horaha hai aur kab serious baat), I fucking love the man I married. He high fives me every time we get a new supportive comment, he's replying to many rude comments directed towards me… My heart melts.

Netizens are lauding the couple’s attempt at smashing stereotypes and gender roles. They also pulled the thread by adding hilariously to the narrative!
Can he go outside without you accompanying him? Go easy on such privileges. Today it's this, tomorrow it will be gender equality..! I mean c'mmon!

I think u shouldn’t let him work & drive, and there is no logic behind my opinion but I still think u shouldn’t 🤷🏻♀️.

I am not sure you know but the veil your husband is wearing is see through, it’s not really modest attire. Pls ensure he covers up properly before going outside !

I KNOOOW I'M TOO NICE. Which is why I'm asking for a medal.

You shouldn't let him drive because the vibration from car will make him horny and he will go crazy.
And shouldn't let him work because he'll meet other men and turn gay.😑😑— tomatomato (@_TamataBatata) April 7, 2019
You don't have to waste money going to restaurants with him! He should stay home and cook for you, that's what a good husband should do! He will become entitled if you insist on such treats for him. You should be MODEST! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

How much dowry did you pay for him? Was he worth it? So many husbands are a disappointment after the wedding. Don't be afraid to return him to his family in disgrace and ruin his chances of ever being eligible again.
