A couple in Gujarat have set a tremendous example of calm and companionship for us. They found themselves stranded atop their submerged car in the middle of a flooded and gushing river, but instead of panicking, they turned the anxious experience into a moment of togetherness.
Suresh Mistry and his wife were swept away by the powerful currents of the Karol River in Sabarkantha district on Sunday when they attempted to cross a flooded causeway in Idar town. Their car was carried away nearly 1.5 kilometres from the causeway, leaving them stuck with only the car’s roof visible above the water, reported Economic Times.
But rather than being overwhelmed with fear, the couple climbed onto the roof of their car and made the best of the situation. For nearly two hours, they waited patiently, keeping each other company and likely finding comfort in their togetherness amidst the rising water levels.
Fire officer Kamal Patel, who was part of the rescue team, said, “The couple managed to climb onto the roof of the car and waited there for nearly two hours before we could rescue them.”
He added that initial rescue efforts were delayed due to the strong river current, making it impossible to approach them safely. Despite this, the couple remained calm and collected, turning what could have been a terrifying experience into a unique moment of bonding.

Several people were in awe of the couple’s calmness during such a distressing situation. This year, the Gujarat floods have claimed many lives. Many people are missing. But this couple seems to believe that they’ll eventually be okay.
Maybe they have more serious problems than this in life.

It’s truly touching to think about how, in such a dangerous situation, Suresh and his wife chose to hold onto each other, their worries left behind on the flooded causeway.
