Lovers Rob A Store & Use Money To Buy Rings, Get Arrested After Cops See Their Engagement Video

Couples these days are going all out when it comes to getting hitched with their better half. After a bride entered her marriage venue in a coffin, a groom skydived to his wedding. Either it’s this marriage epidemic that’s taking over everyone’s mind or the overwhelming wedding season is pressurising them to do all kinds of crazy stuff. But whatever it is, some people, like this desperate couple went too overboard to put a ring on it.

This couple from North Carolina staged a robbery at a convenience store so that they could buy rings, reported The News-Herald. It all happened when the store clerk told the police that an unknown guy, armed with knives walked in the store and demanded money from the clerk at the counter.

He leaves the store without hurting anyone once he is handed over the cash. Although it looks like a legit robbery, it wasn’t until the cops unfolded mystery behind the staged robbery that they discovered the truth. When the Morganton police looked at the CCTV footage, it didn’t quite match with the story the clerk told them.

They were quick to find out that the robbery was staged by the store clerk Callie Elizabeth Carswell and her boyfriend Clarence William Moore III who became the armed robber, reported ABC11. “Carswell and Moore planned the armed robbery and stole a total of $2,960 ( Rs.2.11 lakh approx.) in cash,” said the police.

The police also added that the couple staged the heist so that they have enough money to buy rings. The officials pointed out that Moore was in the store earlier wearing the same pants as the robber. On checking their social media accounts, the police spotted him wearing the same eye-glasses and bandana seen in the CCTV footage.

On strip-searching Moore’s car, the police found some of the money looted from the store and a hand-written list of items that were used to conduct the robbery. Apart from the weapon and clothing Moore used during the robbery, the investigators also found receipts showing that engagement rings were purchased at Walmart while the cops searched the couple.

On checking Carswell’s phone they found a video of them getting engaged at Walmart early the next morning. The pieces of evidence made it clear that the couple faked the robbery and used the stolen cash to buy the rings. Before being caught, Carswell wrote about the robbery on her Facebook page.

“I was robbed at my job tonight,” the post on the Facebook page. “It was the most scariest (sic) thing I ever been through. I’m ok they took a lot of money but I gave them what they asked for until they left so I could make sure they didn’t kill me. My boss said I done good. I’m ok just extremely shooken [sic] up and had a major anxiety attack.”

However, Carswell later said outside of court:

“I didn’t do it. … I wasn’t involved. Watch the (expletive) video and you’ll see that I was (expletive) terrified. I wasn’t involved.”

The Police reportedly charged Carswell with armed robbery, misuse of 911, and filing a false police report. Her boyfriend Moore was charged with armed robbery.

After reading more about these love-struck couples, I think it is time I said, ‘ I have seen enough!’
