Whipping out your can of pepper spray to smoothly mace your attackers is a feat few manage to execute as flawlessly as Scarlett Johanson did in Iron Man II. A popular measure of self-defence, pepper sprays are also used by cops at times as a substitute to tear gas when they swiftly seek to disperse large crowds of protesters.
The cops in Bulgaria attempted to pull off one such smooth macing yet failed horribly. The most curious part is that the folly was theirs entirely. The faux-pas of massive proportions left protesters in splits of laughter.
Bulgaria’s capital Sofia saw protesters take to the streets this past weekend, demanding an early election. The crowd was blocking the way to the Bulgarian parliament and the cops decided to intervene. Policemen rushed to the scene and tried to disperse the protesters to no avail.
They then tried a less peaceful way to disperse the crowds, but the attempt literally backfired! One of the cops opened a canister of pepper spray directly into the wind. Unsurprisingly, the wind caused it to blow back on the gathered officers.
Take a look at the tweeted footage that has since gone viral on social media-

While some were LOLing away, others had interesting pieces of advice for Bulgaria’s policemen.
Pro tip for protestors: always conduct your protests upwind of the police.

Luckily, Bulgarian authorities affirmed that no one was gravely injured during the incident. Indeed folks, the next time you want to mace the public, take their advice and do it upwind!
