What Happens If You Cook Outside in -70°C? This Researcher In Antarctica Shares Pics!

Hey there! Wanna see something really cool? Or maybe, I should say really cold! Like Antarctica cold! Normally, we’d totally frown upon cold food (unless it’s cold pizza, because yum!). But frozen food? Now that’s something we all love, right? Easy to defrost and make a meal out of! But the frozen food that you’re about to see is a whole different kind of awesome!

Meet Cyprien Verseuxan, who also thinks that literal frozen food is quite awesome. Cyprien is an astrobiologist and glaciologist who is currently working in Antarctica!

Ever heard of the Concordia Station in Antarctica? Well, you probably haven’t because it is THE most remote scientific base in the world! And if you work there, you just might look something like this:

Opened in 2005, Concordia Station is a French-Italian research facility built in the Australian Antarctic Territory, and is one of the coldest places on Earth!

The temperatures hardly rise above −25 °C in summer and can fall below −80 °C in winter! The night sky makes for a stunning sight, BTW!

The European Space Agency (ESA) is using the base to understand climate change, human physiology, astrobiology, effect of isolation on human psychology and lot of other scientific fields that can help them simulate similar conditions for missions to the Moon or Mars!

Entertainment at such an isolated place for the small crew can surely be quite the task!

So one fine day, just for fun, Cyprien decided to take some food out in the freezing cold. And well, look at the pictures yourself to see how visually dynamic frozen food can look!

It looks like Elsa from ‘Frozen‘ decided to cook!

Frozen raclette (cheese), anyone?

Of course, once they discoverd this, more pictures had to be taken!

Cyprien, who in his spare time shares tidbits about life in the Antarctic, tweeted some more pictures!

Nutella, frozen or otherwise, can still make hearts melt!

Eggs, frozen mid-crack, sure look appealing! A nice attempt at scrambled eggs!

Looks like the White Witch of Narnia cast a spell on this one! Cyprien called it a ‘balanced breakfast’!

Now who doesn’t like some cold pasta for lunch, no?

This is at a temperature of above -70 degrees!

And finally, how about a glass of water to finish off the meal, huh?

Well well well, these peeps should just stay indoors to enjoy food that’s easy on the ice!
