The state of women, especially in India, wasn’t the same as it was a 100 years ago. However, over the years, society has progressed to appreciate the fairer sex as an important pillar of our developing nation. Hence, to celebrate the achievements of women in social, economic, cultural and political spheres, and to highlight their rights, March 8th is celebrated as International Women’s Day.
And to empower and inspire the young women of today, a class eight schoolgirl in Maharashtra was given the opportunity to become Collector for a day, reported NDTV.
According to HT, this came in as a part of a special program organised for Women’s Day. In a tweet, the District Magistrate of Buldhana and Collector Suman Rawat Chandra said that for a week, few of the bright girls from the area will be given an opportunity to be Collector for a day.

Earlier, five terminally ill kids took charge as Bengaluru city’s Police Commissioner for a day. An ISC topper was also given an opportunity to be the Deputy Commissioner of Police for a day in Kolkata. I think these little gestures will not only inspire women but will motivate young minds to work hard towards achieving their goals. Kudos to people for coming up with these brilliant ideas.
