Cult Comedy, ‘Chupke Chupke’ To Be Remade With Rajkummar Rao As Prof Parimal Tripathi

There are some movies that stand the test of time and remain both relevant and enjoyable even years after its release. One such cult classic is Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Chupke Chupke that hit the theatres in 1975 and starred Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Om Prakash, Usha Kiran, David Abraham Cheulkar, Asrani and Keshto Mukherjee in key roles.

And 44 years later, it is being remade with an all-new cast.

DNA India quoted veteran actor Dharmendra being open to the idea of a remake by saying,

“Chupke Chupke was the Sholay of comedy. With an intelligent writer, for sure. But it would be a challenge because so many people, young and old, have seen the original and loved it. So, it will have to be just as matchless.”

According to News18, Rajkummar Rao confirmed that he’d be starring in the remake as Professor Parimal Tripathi, the Botany professor who pretends to be a driver named Pyare Mohan Allahbadi to fool his wife’s brother-in-law.

The Judgementall Hai Kya star remarked, “It’s a big responsibility to step into his shoes. The scripting is underway now. We know that we can’t match Hrishida’s (Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Director) standard, but we will try to put our best foot forward.”

Hindustan Times reports that Bhushan Kumar and Luv Ranjan will also be associated with the project. We’ll just have to wait and see if the newer version manages to match up with the original.
