Huge Chunk Of Ice Breaks Away From Iceland Glacier Causing Tsunami-Like Wave, Tourists Flee Spot

One of the reasons why people take the issues of the environment, such as global warming, for granted is because they don’t experience the effects of it first-hand. If they did, then maybe a lot of other people would join hands to curb the earth’s crisis.

A video has been circulating the internet lately wherein a huge chunk of ice broke away from a glacier in Iceland and the sight itself can give anyone goosebumps.

The incident happened at the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, a popular tourist spot, located in southeast Iceland.

The shocking video shows tourists running away as a part of the glacier breaks and gives rise to a huge Tsunami-like wave.

The waves pushed the water over the icebergs on which the tourists were standing before the incident.

“Everybody in the area was briefed by their guide that if a collapse happens they must leave the beach and search (for) higher ground immediately, which is exactly what happened,” said Manter, the one who captured the video.

With global warming on the rise, glaciers are disappearing faster than what many had imagined. The more glaciers that break, the higher will be the sea level.

This means that by another 100 years, many of that world’s greatest cities – Shanghai, Hong Kong, Rio de Janeiro, Miami, Mumbai, New York, etc will be under water.

Terrifying, isn’t it?
