Bengal MLA Says Women Should Be Mindful Of Their Surroundings While Dressing

Twitter recently was swelling with anger after Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat commented that women wearing ripped jeans are setting a “bad example” in society.

Things went south when his wife Rashmi Tyagi, a professor by profession, came to his defense and said that “it’s the responsibility of the women of our country to save our culture.”

Their controversial opinions have already made us question the times we are living in. Now, another politician made a casual remark on women’s dressing. Talking to reporters, Actor-turned-politician Chiranjit Chakraborty, a sitting TMC MLA, suggested that women should be conscious of their surroundings while picking their outfits, reported The New Indian Express.

Clarifying that it’s just a mere suggestion, he said, “I am not issuing any dress code, but only offering my suggestion as you (reporters) have asked.”

“One (a woman) should wear a dress keeping in mind the occasion. A woman should wear different outfits for a funeral and a discotheque. What she should wear while traveling on a crowded train may differ from her attire at a party. Everyone knows that, everyone is aware of that.”

Chakraborty made the barbaric statement while answering the questions of reporters during a party meeting in the Barasat constituency in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.

However, this isn’t the first time that the politician said something sexiest. In 2012, while enquiring about the progress of an eve-teasing case, he reportedly said that women should be conscious of the clothes they wear as ‘all dresses are not appropriate for everywhere and sometimes can look provocative.’

Let us frankly know what you think of his comment.
