Chinese Doc Wraps His Wedding In 10 Minutes To Rush Back & Treat Coronavirus Patients

The deadly coronavirus has taken over the entire country of China, killing nearly 500 people since the first case was reported in Wuhan in December. Till now, more than 24,000 people have been reportedly infected and the virus has reached places beyond mainland China. The novel virus that can reportedly spread by an affected person sneezing or coughing has left medical practitioners in China overworked.

Hence, dedicated doctors like Dr Li Zhiqiang are doing all that it takes to save a life, even if it means cutting short their own wedding celebrations. India Today reported that the couple, Dr Li Zhiqiang and his wife Yu Hongyan tied the knot with each other in a ceremony that lasted only 10 minutes. They did this extremely short wedding because the groom had to immediately rush back to the hospital to treat the patients suffering from coronavirus.

Keeping in mind the seriousness of the epidemic and the groom’s responsibility towards his patient, the couple decided to say ‘I do’ in the presence of only five people that included the couple, the parents of the groom and the marriage officiant, reported NDTV.

China Times reported that the two didn’t even have lunch together after the wedding and skipped most of the traditional ceremonies of the wedding as Dr Zhiqiang who works as an obstetrics clinician hurried back to work.

The couple said they didn’t postpone their wedding as it had been planned before the outbreak, to be held on January 31st, the sixth day of the New Year. Since the movement of people were also restricted in order to stop the virus from spreading, they decided not to invite any relatives and friends on their special day.

The bride equally supported their decision and said that ‘in the current situation, it was the most satisfactory thing to do’. According to a report by CNN, places like Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Nepal, have confirmed cases of the Wuhan coronavirus. India also confirmed its third case of coronavirus on Monday in Kerala.

In such a critical time, we really need doctors like Zhiqiang who take their work so seriously. Hats off to the couple.
