China Is Building The World’s First ‘Vertical Forest City’ To Curb Pollution

China’s the most populated country in the world. Of course, you know that. So, you would also know that it comes on the list of Top 15 most polluted countries. Right? But, the country of close to 1.4 billion people is doing everything it can to grow towards a greener and pollution-free future. Be it their eco-friendly policies, products, laws or the decision to build greener cities, China is pacing towards a better future. Case in point, vertical forest city.

After China’s Nanjing city became the first Asian city to be getting a vertical forest (by 2018), China is building a forest city – Liuzhou Forest City – which will boast urban settlements and vertical forests. And, this will help curb pollution by leaps and bounds.

Designed by Italian architect, Stefano Boeri,

Liuzhou Forest City will be built north of Liuzhou in the south and the mountainous province of Guangxi, an area of about 175 hectares along the Liujiang River. The new city of 30,000 inhabitants will be able each year to absorb about 10,000 tons of CO2 and 57 tons of particulate matter and to produce about 900 tons of oxygen.”

Woah! That’s mighty impressive.

The self-sufficient city will have 40,000 trees and about 1 million plants of over 100 species.

The Forest City will be connected to the city of Liuzhou by a fast train line, which will have electric-powered cars. It will also have two schools and a hospital.

It will use geothermal energy for air-conditioning and solar panel roofs for churning out renewable energy.

The city’s greener landscape will not only boast of a better air quality but it will also facilitate better biodiversity in terms of creating “a system of vital spaces for birds, insects and small animals that inhabit the territory of Liuzhou”.

The vertical forest of Milan has garnered a lot of praises, and the urban settlement is being replicated in Nanjing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen too.

This is the dream world, Stefano Boeri is building with his team, and we can’t help but imagine ourselves in the picturesque, pollution-free setting.

And, we have something like this in Bangalore, where are already going with our bags. Makes me wanna sing, We live in a beautiful world!
