A Helpless Father’s Painful Photo Of His Cancer Afflicted Daughter Will Bring You To Tears

Cancer is by far one of the worst things to happen in a family. Apart from the excruciating physical pain that the patient endures, there is also the emotional trauma which may be even worse.

Andy Whelan recently uploaded a heartbreaking picture of his daughter, Jessica, who is suffering from cancer and only has a few weeks to live. 

“Perhaps by seeing this photo people will be made aware of the darkness that is childhood cancer.”

Andy took this photo at the moment when he felt completely helpless and could offer his daughter no comfort.

For 13 months, Jessica had been fighting stage four neuroblastoma, a type of cancer affecting the adrenal gland. However, her treatment found no success and the doctors gave her only a few weeks to live. 

The doctors tried various treatments over the course of 13 months but found no success. Eventually, Andy decided to stop treatment so that Jessica could live a normal life for whatever time she had left.

When speaking about the picture and the message he wishes to convey through it, Andy had this to say.

“I understand this photo is hard to see and even harder to absorb, but this is what cancer does to a child in their final weeks and days. Before her diagnosis, I was one of those ignorant to the darkness of childhood cancer.”

Too many times have children been orphaned, wives widowed, and parents left childless. Each time, cancer has won! Cancer can be cured, if detected early. Let’s be diligent. Let’s not make the fight so easy!
