Chhattisgarh Woman Claims She’s Been Surviving Only On ‘Chai’ For The Past 33 Years

Our day feels incomplete without the mandatory cup of ‘chai’ we all love. Surviving on just tea may seem tempting, we also might joke about it, but never really get on with the idea.

But living in Chhattisgarh is the 44-year old ultimate tea lover who has been surviving on just tea for the past 33 years. And guess what, she is perfectly healthy!

This tea lover is Pilli Devi, living in Baradiya village of Koriya district, had given up food at the age of 11. According to her father Rati Ram, she quit food when she was in sixth grade and has been drinking just tea since then.

“Our daughter went to participate in a district level tournament from Patna School in Janakpur, Koriya District. When she returned, she suddenly gave up eating food and drinking water” – Rati Ram.

Because of Pilli Devi’s unique lifestyle, she has been given the name ‘Chai Wali Chachi’ by the locals.

The father also added that previously she used to eat bread and biscuits along with milk tea. Eventually, she shifted to drinking just black tea once a day after sunset.

You might be thinking that something is really, really wrong with her. Her family did too!

Brother Bihari Lal revealed that she went through medical checkups to ensure she was not suffering from a disease. But the doctors couldn’t find any health issue causing her behavior!

“We have taken her to many hospitals, none of the doctors could figure out the reason behind her situation” – Bihari Lal.

Local doctor SK Gupta said that it is not possible for any human being to survive on just tea: “It is surprising. Scientifically speaking, a human being cannot survive on tea for 33 years.”

But ‘Chai Wali Chachi’ lives a healthy and hearty life, rarely stepping outdoors and keeping herself busy in Lord Shiva’s prayers.

Nothing is impossible, it seems!
