Chhattisgarh School Textbook Says Empowering Women Leads To Unemployment In India

‘Working women are one of the causes of unemployment in our country.’

This is not what I believe in, but is actually written in an excerpt from a class X textbook in Chhattisgarh.

Indian textbooks are often riddled with controversies. Sometimes Bhagat Singh is termed as a ‘terrorist’ or a distorted history is taught.

 

Soumya Garg, a 24-year-old teacher from the tribal Jashpur district, has petitioned the Chhattisgarh State Commission for Women against the content which is published by the Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE).

“Does it mean that percentage of unemployment is measured on parameters keeping only men in mind? In the age of technology and gender equality, students can’t be taught about such prejudices. Women have equal right over jobs with men,” she told TOI.

This is simply not fair. They can’t be blamed for unemployment in our country.
