Your 12-year-old sibling has unlocked more filters on Snapchat than you have. Your 15-year-old cousin who joined Instagram has more followers than you do, and that too just within a month of him joining. Such is the mutual pull of social media for the younger generation that one cannot survive without the other.
But a school in Chennai – Srimathi Sundaravalli Memorial School – is having none of that. In fact, the school’s admission form lays down one simple and straight condition – no social media accounts.
A Twitter user Anand Sethuraman put up the picture with the caption: so this is how it’s going to be. Good point, Mr. Sethuraman.

Chennai has always been famous, or rather infamous for its stringent college and school rules, but this one is a brand new level of crazy. Twitter users had their own opinions about the condition.
@AnandTheJamist, Fair enough, I guess. Anyway, they are meant for only 18+ people.

@SaiShyamG @AnandTheJamist Think 13+ can join Facebook. pic.twitter.com/20NiZiGRoC

@AnandTheJamist I know the founder of this institution, a no nonsense man, strict. He is old fashioned, but means well @rvaidya2000

@AnandTheJamist @poisonaavi wouldn’t this be depraving a teen his fundamental right of free action

@AnandTheJamist sigh. Everything except education seems to be motto of Indian education scene.

Honestly, this is a bit too harsh, and invasion of personal space considering the school should not be the one to decide how their students spend their time after school hours.
