This Viral Video Of A Truck Drowning In Chennai Is FAKE. Don’t Fall For It.

Internet is _____.

Fill in the blank with any word you like and it will still make sense. You know why? Because the freedom of uploading, downloading, sharing, communicating has opened new avenues for people to try anything and everything. However, not everything that you see on the Internet is true.

Like take this video for instance.

This video is currently being shared on Whatsapp, Facebook, and even by many popular media as the rare and horrifying footage of a truck drowning in Tamil Nadu. At first, even I believed what I saw and felt bad for the people in Chennai.

Then I looked closely, that house on the left, that doesn’t look Indian. Even the truck looks different with Chinese inscriptions on the back. And that massive plunge it took on the road, was there a creek? But there are no creeks on visible on the roadside. After a lot of confusion, I did a back search on Google, and this is what I discovered.

Feb 16, 2014: Same video, uploaded called as floods in Morogoro, Tanzania. Feb 2014.

August 22, 2014: Uncredit, truck drowning in water

Nov 16, 2015: Chennai floods, 26 November (today is 20th), labelled as Chennai – Tirupati highway near Tiruvallur

This video has earlier been shared as Uttarakhand floods, Mumbai floods and many other times.

There will be many other sources available for this video on the internet. I believe that the condition in Chennai is quite bad and people are suffering every day. But we don’t need fake videos to believe that.

Don’t believe everything you see, Internet can be quite deceiving.

If it’s on the Internet, it must  be true. NOT.
